Tone

End of Chapter 6 - Frankenstein, after finishing the creation of PIECES, feels really ashamed of the composition which he has given to IT. Therefore, he starts neglecting IT and runs away from his house. As he is walking, he sees a carriage arriving in his direction and, to his surprise, it was none other than his friend, Henry Clerval, who comes out of it. Upon seeing his friend, he forgets all of his sorrows and they both converse about their childhood days. The following day, Frankenstein brings his friend to his house in which he left PIECES the night before. As they arrive, Frankenstein goes to the room, where he fears that PIECES would still be but, to his disbelief, IT is not there. This is the first moment where we experience a change in tone because, before this moment, Frankenstein is in a deep worry due to PIECES but, upon not finding IT in the room, he is suddenly overcome with joy. Later, both the friends chat and Frankenstein realizes that, in the time that he spent creating PIECES, he is unable to have leisure time. Therefore, he and Clerval decide to go for a sightseeing trip around Ingolstadt. Therefore, Chapter 6 ends in a happy tone but, right after that, in the beginning of Chapter 7, the tone changes. Frankenstein receives a letter from his father, Alphonse Frankenstein, regarding the tragic death of William Frankenstein, Victor's brother. This change in tone could be characterized as "Happy-happy-happy-sad" tone.
Epic Characteristics

PIECES would be one only character with epic characteristics. Having superhuman powers such as speed, strength, and height, PIECES functioned in a totally different manner compared to normal humans. About quarter of the way through Chapter 7, as Victor emerges close to his hometown, Geneva, after receiving the letter from his father, he spots PIECES approaching the zenith of Mount Mole. The readers, as well as Victor, are stunned by the speed through which IT reached the top of the steep mountain, and vanished. It is epic because a normal human would at least take 3 to 4 hours, more or less, to hike to the top of the mountain with factors such as steepness, height of the mountain, flexibility of the hiker, etc. to be considered. Another epic characteristic could be seen when PIECES finds Victor in a sledge on the frozen sea, and comes running with a tremendous speed to him, despite the separation and cracking of the ice.
Simile
The quote above represents an example of a simile in the story. While in the process of creating his creature, Victor feels unsure about what his creation would result in. He feels tense, worried, excited, joyous, and skeptical all at one time. He is not worried about the happiness that he will feel upon the success but, more or less, feels worried about his family and the mankind as a whole. As he is working, he explains in the above quote about how he is going through a variety of feelings like a hurricane of his first creation.
Metaphor
"Life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which I should first break through, and pour a torrent of light into our dark world. A new species would bless me as its creator and source" (Chapter 4)
The quote above represents a metaphor, which compares a two things without using like or as. The first half of the quote describes how Victor is confused between what he should do because, by giving life to the creature, it could either create a new life or bring Death back to life. Then, the second half mentions that the new and unique being that he is creating would praise him for introducing ITS new species. So, the metaphors in this quote are life and death as two options, or bounds, torrent of light into our dark world would be an entirely new kind of species into this world of humans, many of who were corrupted, violent, and vengeful.
